Case 1: Biaxin XL & Abbott Laboratories

At Abbott Laboratories, Orlando Software Group was asked to map the manufacturing process of Biaxin XL, their most popular antibiotic. The manufacture of pharmaceuticals is a complex undertaking, but from raw materials to finished product to distribution & delivery, LeanView™ was able to quickly, efficiently and cost effectively map both high level processes and drill down through multiple sub-levels to provide in-depth analysis of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process. Users were able to easily analyze processes at the high level or optionally include lower level processes in the analysis to get detailed information. The inclusion of the Return on Key Assets financial data allowed plant managers and financial analyists to predict, track and document improvement savings. The experience at Abbott Laboratories will ensure that their facilities will be able to better meet customer demand while reducing waste, providing higher quality products and lowering costs.

Case 2: Open Heart Surgery

A leading healthcare provider, engaged Orlando Software Group to perform lean analysis on one of it's major Open Heart Surgery facilities. Utilizing LeanView™, we were able to successfully map the entire open heart surgery process from pre-admittance to discharge, encompassing hundreds of high level processes. Using LeanView's unique capabilities, we were then able to create sub-level maps and analysis on areas such as admitting, finance, sterilization, laboratory & pharmacy orders, and equipment repair which, in and of themselves, have multiple sub-processes. LeanView's powerful sub-process linking capabilities not only gave surgeons and administration the ability, for the first time, to visualize the entire process from beginning to end, but allowed the team to perform roll up analysis to include sub-process performance on the entire value stream and, quickly and easily, identify areas of improvement opportunity. As a result, open heart surgery performance at the facility can be dramatically improved, thus providing substantial savings, improved quality of care and increased customer satisfaction.
